Features of a Partial Truckload Service or PTL

Among the various options available to you to transport your cargo, based on its nature and weight, PTL or Partial Truckload service is suited to cargo that is similar to LTL freight. One of the distinct features of PTL is that it is not large enough to require a single shipment. Moreover, this type of shipment requires a special price quote, which is usually done on an on-the-spot basis, whereby a special price is quoted for PTL shipments. Also known as partial loads, these shipments commonly weigh more than 7,000 lbs and occupy about 6 pallet spots in a truckload.

PTL differs from LTL and is usually offered as a door-to-door service. The truck used at pick-up points delivers the shipment and you can also benefit from the low cost of this method of transportation.

As the cargo is not disturbed much, there is very little chance of damages caused to the cargo. The time taken for transit is also much lesser then other kinds of truckload services.

Reasons why you should be aware of shipping rates and how to calculate these rates:

You should collect information about the shipping rates quoted by various companies so that you can compare, evaluate and choose the best one among them.

You can minimize freight costs considerably if you know the procedure to calculate shipping rates correctly and quickly.

Irrespective of the nature of your cargo, you have to ascertain the shipping rates stipulating the accurate weight and properties of your cargo.
